Fishing

If you’re looking for a great place to go fishing, Minnesota is the state for you! While we’ve listed two of our great state’s best fishing spots, Minnesota is home to over 11,000 lakes and has hundreds of great fishing spots to choose from

Leech Lake

Leech Lake is well known for its unique species of freshwater fish, the eelpout, one of the ugliest bottom-dwelling fish around. Don’t let their appearance fool you, these fish are fun and easy to catch and the lake even dedicates a weekend in February to the popular catch. However, if eelpout aren’t of interest to you, this large lake also includes several other popular catches including walleye, northern pike, muskie, bass, perch, bluegill, and crappie!

Lake Mille Lacs

Lake Mille Lacs has been listed as one of the top 10 bass fishing spots in the region and hosts a number of other prize-winning catches. Depending on the season you’re likely to see walleye, tullibee, northern pike, and even muskellunge come summer time. During the winter, Lake Mille Lacs is also one of the most popular locations in the state for ice fishing. Thankfully, this lake covers 207 square miles, so there’s no need to worry about finding a secluded spot!

Unique

For those of you less interested in fishing and more about adventure, Minnesota’s lakes have some pretty unique sights and sounds for you to experience! While there’s a lot to do aboard your vessel, the lakes listed below also have some pretty cool features that make them a must for any boater!

Lake Minnetonka

Lake Minnetonka is an extremely popular summer destination for surfers and wakeboarders who want to catch a few waves without having to take a long drive out to the ocean. This is also one of the first lakes to dethaw once spring arrives, ensuring boaters have plenty of time to reach this lake’s beautiful shores before the season ends. However, if you do happen to miss out on the summer fun there's no need to fret! This lake has some amazing winter activities, with the most popular being its ice golf tournament, the Chilly Open.

Minneapolis Chain of Lakes

I’m sure you weren’t expecting one of Minnesota’s best boating spots to be located in one of its biggest cities, but the Minneapolis Chain of Lakes is a truly unique and picturesque spot. This body of water is called the chain of lakes because it includes Cedar, Harriet, Brownie, Bde Maka Ska, and the Lake of the Isles within it. If you’re interested in experiencing the best of what Minneapolis has to offer, as well as the breathtaking scenery of Minnesota’s great lakes, this is the perfect spot for you.

Now that you know all about Minnesota’s great boating spots, we’re sure you’re excited to head out onto the water.  If you're located nearby in Minneapolis or St. Cloud, Minnesota we hope you’ll stop by Nisswa Marine for all your boating needs.
