Every good boat owner wants to ensure that their vessel always has everything they need to be comfortable on the water. The fishing boat accessory market is expansive so it can be a challenge to find the right gear for your boat. This is especially true if you are a new fishing boat owner.

Nisswa Marine is proud to be your Minnesota fishing boat dealer. Here are some of the best accessories you can add to your fishing boat to maximize comfort and productivity out on the water.

Fishing Boat Seat

A good fishing boat needs a place for you to sit and cast your line in any direction, and installing a fishing boat seat will make that possible. Fishing from the wrong position can leave you with back pain, so you’ll want a seat that can swivel and has padding so you’re comfortable and supported. High-backed designs with compression foam padding are perfect; look for seats coated with mildew-resistant marine-grade vinyl, too.

Dock Line

Sturdy and reliable dock line is essential for docking your boat safely. You’ll want one that is durable and strong enough to hold the weight of your boat and all it contains, and the type you get may vary depending on the type of fishing boat you have. Old-timers would use a length of fibrous rope and tie sailor’s knots in it. Technology has advanced sufficiently to the point that knots are no longer necessary, unless you’re into them.

Modern dock line tends to be made from bungee cords which can stretch to span the distance needed between the boat and the dock. You can find them in many different lengths and should probably invest in a few so that you have enough dock line to secure your boat completely.

Dry Bag

No one goes out on a boating expedition without anything but the clothes on their back and their fishing rod. You’ll want to have a dry bag that’s fully waterproof and large enough to carry all of your delicate supplies safely, including paper maps, medications, a first-aid kit, identification, your cell phone and charger, extra clothing, wallet, keys and any other items. Dry bags come in many sizes and styles with pockets and other features so you should be able to find one that meets all your needs.

Personal Flotation Device

Otherwise known as a life jacket, a personal flotation device (PFD) is absolutely necessary for every boater. The operator and all their passengers should wear their own PFDs from dock to dock. Even if you’re the best swimmer in the world, you could still be thrown or fall into the water suddenly and become disoriented or hit your head and be knocked out. A PFD ensures your safety until you’re rescued.

Children will need their own child-sized jackets with crotch straps and head-flotation features to ensure they remain upright and that their jackets don’t slip off over their heads. Make sure that you carry a throwable life ring on your boat as well so that you can toss it to anyone who falls overboard.
